The week that was:
JAN 01 - JAN 07 2023

By xHawKx

Well, here we are, the beginning of 2023! Luckily, the start of the new year was not absent of some juicy stories in the wonderful world of gaming. Here are some of our favorites!

Microsoft claims they don’t know when the first Call of duty game released
So……yeah, this is just as strange to us as it might be to all of you. This was seen by a user on Twitter who happened to spot this in Microsoft’s response to the FTC’s lawsuit against them regarding their attempted acquisition of Activision. You’d think one of the employee’s over there could just use their own bing search engine and find out, no?

Elden Ring surpasses The Last of Us Part II in total GOTY awards
Aaaaaand it’s official! Elden Ring, which came out early last year, has dethroned The Last of Us part II, which came out in 2020, in total Game of Year awards. Congrats to Miyazaki, and the entire team at From Software!

Konami teases reveals of familiar series and unannounced projects underway
Konami has recently been poking their head out of the realm of obscurity, with the ‘not so long ago’ reveal that they’re working on remasters of the first two Suikoden games, not to mention several Silent Hill projects. Now, they’ve come right forward, in their New Years  greeting, no less, to say that they’re going to have new announcements this year, as well as new developments for “familiar series”. Konami did not mention which ones, however.

Cygames says Granblue Fantasy Relink is coming in 2023
This one excites me, personally, so I just HAD to include this one. To say Granblue Fantasy Relink has had a well, a pretty lengthy dev cycle, would be putting it lightly. However, Cygames not only reassured fans on Twitter that it would indeed be released in 2023, but also surprised them with a new trailer, which confirms a 2023 release date at the end of it. It’s safe to say that yours truly, is relieved!

PS5 Sales hit 30 million
In a pretty huge milestone for PlayStation, Sony announced during its CES 2023 conference, that the PS5 has has sold more than 30 million units, with just over 2 years on the market. Not only that, but Sony also mentioned during the same conference, that December of 2022 was the best ever month for PS5 sales since the launch of the console.

Bungie working on several new projects for Sony
Tom Farnsworth, who is a senior design lead for Bungie, announced on Twitter that Bungie is “working on a number of unannounced projects..” Speculation is the best we have at this point. Is it a completely new IP from Bungie? Are they collaborating with another one of Sony’s in house developers to create a multi-player game from an already established franchise? Hopefully we’ll know a little more later this year!

PSVR2 positive previews and game announcements
Now, since Sony is set to launch the PSVR2, it’s only right that we leave you with something worth getting excited over. There have been several media outlets that have been lucky enough to get their hands on the PSVR2 to get some much needed time with it. And it looks like if you’ve been waiting with baited breath to see what people think of it, I’m happy to say you can let out a sigh of relief.

Most everything we’re seeing in these previews are saying similar things: That it’s lighter and even MORE comfortable than that of the PSVR1. The eye-tracking is very advanced and impressive, the haptics in the controllers, as well as the headset itself feel great. The incredible 4K OLED display looks fantastic.

To add to this, it was also announced that GT7 would be PSVR2 compatible, as well as the insanely popular Beat Saber, would be coming as well. The only question is, will GT7 just be limited by certain game modes, or something like single time trial races? Or will it be the FULL game? I’m hoping for the latter.

Well, that’s it for this week. Please join us for our next edition of “The week that was” and as always, thanks for reading!
