Going going gone
Comcast has decided to pull the plug on G4TV less than a year since its rebirth. In a statement to employees, CEO of Comcast’s sports and entertainment division Dave Scott said “Over the past several months, we worked hard to generate that interest in G4, but viewership is low and the network has not achieved sustainable financial results. This is certainly not what we hoped for, and, as a result, we have made the very difficult decision to discontinue G4’s operations, effective immediately.” Several employees found out via Twitter at the same time as their viewers. G4TV relaunched in November of 2021 but struggled to catch on amidst the new landscape of YouTube etc.

Boycott in the making
As reported by CBC and numerous other outlets, on Oct 15 2022 voice actress Hellena Taylor (Bayonetta lead) made several posts to Twitter regarding developer Platinum Games offering her $4,000 US to reprise her role for Bayonetta 3, which she described as an insult. Taylor defied her NDA to post “I didn’t want the world, I didn’t ask for too much. I was just asking for a decent, dignified, living wage. What they did was legal, but it was immoral.” Day later, Jason Schreier writing for Bloomberg would offer a different account of the events according to sources. This new claim stated that Platinum Games offered Taylor $3,000 to $4,000 per recording session for a total of about $15,000 or about triple the standard minimum according to the SAG-AFTRA union rate sheet. Taylor responded by calling this “a lie”. Voice actor Jennifer Hale is now set to voice Bayonetta as fans remain conflicted.

The cost of going Pro
The PlayStation Edge Pro controller release date has been revealed along with the price. January 26, 2023 marks the date with pre-orders going live this Oct 25, 2022. According to the PlayStation Blog, DualSense Edge will be available for a recommended retail price of $199.99 USD/¥29,980. The replaceable stick modules will be available globally on January 26 for a recommended retail price (RRP) of $19.99 USD/¥2,680. The package includes the DualSense Edge wireless controller, a USB braided cable, 2 standard caps, 2 high dome caps, 2 low dome caps, 2 half dome back buttons, 2 lever back buttons, a connector housing and a carrying case.

In restless dreams
Konami held a Silent Hill showcase confirming several rumors that have been making the rounds as far as new games in development along with a new movie. A Silent Hill 2 Remake headed by Polish developers Bloober Team takes the headline with its 1 year console exclusivity on PS5. Details on the Silent Hill 2 production can be found at PlayStation Blog, including the involvement of Unreal Engine 5. Also announced were new entries Silent Hill Townfall developed by No Code, a live interactive series titled Silent Hill: Ascension, plus a mysterious new Silent Hill f. Also announced were merch and a Return to Silent Hill movie by the writer-director behind the first Silent Hill movie, Christophe Gans.

Hot takes
Gotham Knights launched this week after its 30 fps controversy. No performance mode will be available, somewhat bucking the trend of recent 60fps current gen console games. God of War Ragnarok issued a 5 hour preview to select press this week which has gone over rather well. PS5 supply issues appear to be levelling out as the console maintains top spot in September’s NPD sales charts along with the UK. Capcom held a Resident Evil stream which debuted new gameplay footage from the upcoming RE4 Remake, much to the delight of fans. Hope for a Code: Veronica remake have now become a “maybe” after comments from series producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi. Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2’s campaign early access is now live for pre-orders.
